When Ronan Brady walked out onto the Ireland’s Got Talent stage, the judges were instantly intrigued. Sporting a unique, halfway-unbuttoned wardrobe, the charismatic 30-something contestant was playfully teased by the panel for looking like a “lazy stripper.” However, Ronan quickly cleared up the confusion by revealing that his attire was carefully chosen for his craft—a highly demanding physical circus discipline involving a massive piece of metallic engineering known as a Cyr wheel.
Before taking up the circus arts full-time, Ronan led a completely different life as a secondary school teacher in Roscommon. A highly athletic individual, Ronan had spent years playing elite Gaelic football for his county, famously winning the Connacht Final in 2010. Tragically, at just 25 years old, he was diagnosed with severe arthritis in his ankle, completely shattering his football career. Seeking a new way to physically challenge his body and escape the routine of his teaching job, Ronan took a massive gamble, left his career behind, and dedicated his life to mastering the wheel.

The second Ronan stepped inside his massive silver apparatus, the auditorium fell into an absolute hush. Spinning across the stage to an emotional, haunting rendition of “Hallelujah,” Ronan delivered a masterclass in balance, strength, and lyrical movement. Securing three enthusiastic “yeses,” Ronan proudly advanced to the next round, proving it’s never too late to reinvent yourself.
